Spread Footing Foundations

Spread footing, which is one type of foundation, uses slabs of concrete which surpass the frost line and are used to transfer the weight of the walls to the ground. Deep foundations are generally used if the case is that the ground is soft, therefore enrooting the foundations to deeper, more solid soil. There are two types of building foundations for different types of ground surface. In general, a house foundation is there to take the weight of the structure, to ensure that there is a level base in place ready for construction to begin. The most common material for a building foundation construction is concrete.

Shallow Foundations

Embedded a meter or more into the ground when the structure is placed upon a nice solid surface that is capable of taking the structures weight capacity. Spread footing is one type of shallow foundation which contains concrete strips which expand below what is called the 'frost line'. Also there is the slab-on-ground foundation, a foundation where the weight is transferred to the ground via a concrete slab placed on the surface.

Deep Foundations

As above, deep foundations are used in circumstances where the ground at the surface is softer than deep beneath, therefore deep foundations are fixed to the harder soil under the soft soil in order to take the weight of the structure. The different types of deep foundation are drilled shafts, caissons, helical piles, impact driven piles, piers and earth stabilised columns. Engineers all over the UK commonly rename these different types of foundation.

Earthquake Protective Foundations

As the title says, also commonly known as a base insulation system or seismic are put in place in order to protect a tall building from earthquakes.

Foundation Design

Prime Design & Build foundations are designed with sufficient load capacity, it takes the team work of both the geotechnical engineer and a structural engineer to ensure that the foundation allows for the structure to settle properly to the ground.
